So I’ve got some skin in the game of this year’s Inktober, which gives you a daily prompt to draw for 31 days througout the month of October.

What I’ve learned so for is that:

It’s ok if this spills over into 2027 up until either I finish all 31 days or the next Inktober 2027 begins...which ever comes first.

I’ve learned to work at my own pace, instead of staying in since with each daily prompt. This ensures that participation stays enjoyable and doesn’t lead to drudgery.

Completing most of these challenges on the computer works a little bit better just because it’s more cost effect and cuts down on having too many sketchbooks laying around.

Not everything has to be scary or Halloween related, which works great for me; since I don’t really have that kind of macabre art style.

There really is not right or wrong way to do it! It just depends on which way you want to go with the art; how you choose to express each prompt.

Digital art is very forgiving, which allows me to save on my art supplies, until I really feel compelled to use them and not because I feel like I have to or I should.

I use this as an opportunity to think about something else other than the US war with Iran, social instability or severe inflation.

I get to underwrite my own creative process, which is a luxury that is rarely afforded when working on commissions.

It’s good to start off with a preliminary sketch and not jump right on into it with pen, just to keep from wasting paper and other products; rehearse your art.

Inktober is traditionally done in black and white or gray scale but don’t let that deter you from using a dash of color in your pieces.

Will post a full collage when I'm finished with all 31 prompts
