Predator of Petty Things
Often we become
a monster sleeping
with one eye open
always ready to hone in
on disturbances.
We palpate for trouble
lurking for it
to toy with
or entertain
but mostly to pounce.
Small disturbances
like a long check out line,
a spoon in the fork drawer
or a laugh that lingers too long
each one prey.
We grow sharp edged
waiting
with our teeth clenched
in anticipation
of the next annoyance
to gnaw on.
